What happens when making art and motherhood collide? Audiences can explore the answers on March 21 at the ACME Screening Room, 25 S. Union St, Lambertville, at the showing of “Who Does She Think She Is?”
The film examines some of the most pressing balancing-act issues of the time: parenting and work, partnering and independence, economics and art.
”This special screening would not have happened without the input of Lambertville residents and artists: Annelies van Dommelen and Aylin Green, who recommended we show this film,” said Sara Scully, program producer. “We appreciate their bringing our attention to this excellent film that is so relevant to Lambertville’s creative community of artists and mothers.”
The film follows five women artists as they navigate the economic, psychological, and spiritual challenges of making work outside the elite art world. From studios in Cambridge and Providence to the suburbs of Ohio, from Hawaii’s Big Island to New York City, from the deserts of New Mexico to the tropics of St. Vincent, we watch as these women, ranging in age from 27 to 65, fight to honor their vision and their families every day.
Tickets are $7 in advance, $10 at the door. To purchase tickets in advance, e-mail [email protected] by March 20.
Screening times are: 6 p.m. and 7:15 p.m., followed by post-film discussion at 8:30 p.m. All ticket holders are welcome to attend the discussion.
The ACME Screening Room is a project of Friends of Lambertville Library, a nonprofit organization.
