   Karaoke: American Legion Post 401, 148 Major Road, will host Karaoke Dance’s on the third Friday of each month, Jan. 16, Feb. 20, March 20 and April 17 beginning at 8:30 p.m. The Karaoke is free and open to the public. Food will be available for purchase. For information call 732-329-9861.
   Ice cream social: The Goddard School located in Dayton is having Ice Cream Social from 5:30 to 7:30 p.m. at it’s location, 399 Ridge Road, Suite No. 1, Dayton. Children of all ages will enjoy refreshments and fun activities at this special event. There will be fun games, build your own sundaes, and a chance to meet the teachers and other families. Families will also receive $100 off the first month’s tuition when they enroll by March 23.

   Parent Academy: The South Brunswick Parent Academy will host interactive parent workshop The Power of Laughter at 7 to 8:30 p.m. Participants will learn about the physiological benefits of laughter; about the link between humor and learning and strategies to help your child (and yourself) diffuse stress by learning to laugh and use humor. To be held at Crossroads North Middle School. Childcare will be provided.    SAT help: Free SAT Prep Help for sixth through 12th graders, 7 to 8 p.m. Tuesday, March 24. If you are also interested in learning some general tips and hints to increase your overall SAT score then attend the free Kaplan Test Prep program in Program Room A/B at the South Brunswick Public Library. Registration is required and must be done through Kaplan by phone: 1-800- KAPTEST, or e-mail: www.kaptest.com/practicetest. Please specify which program you will be attending when registering.
   Music festival: Community members are invited to attend a very special musical event as students from throughout the school district perform in the District’s Choral Festival. The Festival, which will take place in the high school auditorium (750 Ridge Road) beginning at 7 p.m., will feature select fifth-graders from each elementary school, the Crossroads North and South Vocal Ensemble and the South Brunswick High School Concert Choir.
   Members of each ensemble are to prepare for this special, one-time performance. Each ensemble will perform two pieces and the evening will culminate with all of the musicians performing one beautiful selection together. More than 160 vocalists will perform during the Festival.
   Relay for Life: Event will kick off 7 p.m. at the South Brunswick Family YMCA. The actual relay will be held June 12.
April 7
   Art of the Interview: A free seminar, The Art of the Interview: Tips to Help you Nail your Next Job Interview, will be presented by Eileen Levine from the Williamsburg Group Inc., an employment service in Monmouth Junction, from 10:30 a.m. to noon. Ms. Levine will help participants evaluate strategies for success in job interviews. Admission is free, but seating is limited. Please register at the Information Desk at the South Brunswick Public Library.
April 16
   Proms, Parties and Pitfalls: SUDZ (Stop Underage Drinking Zone), South Brunswick Municipal Alliance Against Substance Abuse, South Brunswick Parent Academy and the National Council on Alcoholism and Drug Dependence (NCADD) of Middlesex County is hosting a Prom, Parties and Pitfall 2008 forum from 7 to 9 p.m. at South Brunswick High School (750 Ridge Road). This workshop is an educational forum for parents to gain knowledge, insight and tips on teens and alcohol and keeping children safe during this time of the year. Speakers include representatives from SBHS Intervention Services, South Brunswick Police Department and Rutgers University’s Dean of Students. Hear the perspective from both a South Brunswick High School graduate and a current Rutgers student. Attendees will receive raffle tickets to drawings for free junior or senior prom tickets and more (Money will be refunded for previously purchased prom tickets).    Celebrating South Brunswick: “The World In South Brunswick: A Celebration of Art & Diversity” All ages. Noon to 4 p.m. To feature a variety of local and professional performers representing the cultures and interests of our community. This event is being organized by the library’s Youth Advisory Council and Teen Special Forces groups. Snacks and refreshments will be provided. Sponsored by the Friends of the South Brunswick Public Library.
   Healthy Kids Day Fair: 10 a.m. to 1 p.m. at the South Brunswick Family YMCA, 329 Culver Road, Monmouth Junction. Free and open to all. Fun games, activities and products relating to healthy kids and families. Bike safety, healthy snacks, relay games and more. 732-329-1150 for more information.
April 22
   Trip to a battleship: The Senior Center is sponsoring a trip to the Battleship New Jersey, located on the waterfront in Camden. This is a one and a half to two hour guided tour of the ship and includes lots of walking and some stair/ladder climbing. There is a multimedia room for those that may have limited mobility. The cost is $18 per person which includes admission, tour and transportation. You may register on or after Feb. 11 in person at the senior center.    Seniors only art show: South Brunswick’s Senior Citizens are invited to a special “Seniors Only” viewing of the school district’s fifth annual Student Art Gallery from 3:30 to 4:30 p.m. at South Brunswick High School, 750 Ridge Road. Seniors are asked to register through the Senior Center, 732-329-4000, ext. 7670 no later than Monday, April 13. Bus transportation will be provided by the Senior Center. Those interested in providing their own transportation may do so.

   Preschool get-together: Preschoolers Get Together at the South Brunswick Public Library for a sing and share the good feelings of getting together with other moms and preschoolers. The More We Get Together is a new story time just for children ages zero to 3 with and without special needs. No registration required.    Earth Day: Join the township in beautifying your home town by taking part in Earth Day. Since 1992 South Brunswick, with help from the New Jersey Clean Communities Program, has sponsored annual its volunteer litter clean up during the month of April to celebrate Earth Day locally. Year after year, dedicated individuals, families and groups have given of their valuable time in service to their community and have done a superb job in making South Brunswick a cleaner community. So far this year, 40 individuals and groups have committed to give one hour of their time to clean up litter within the Township. But there are still more areas that need cleaning. The township will supply volunteers with bags and gloves to get the job done. A commemorative tree planting and celebration is planned for volunteers from noon until 2 p.m. at Reichler Park (Senior Center in case of rain).    Sacred cantata: The Choir from the First Baptist Church of Browns Mills will play in the historic Fresh Ponds Chapel, at the corner of Fresh Ponds and Davidsons Mill roads, at 7:30 p.m. The theme is The risen Savior, ending the season of Eastertide. Free.
April 30
   Meet the author: Samantha Schutz, author of “I don’t want to be crazy” will be coming to the library to discuss her poetic memoir from 7 to 8 p.m. In her poetic memoir Ms. Schutz recalls when she first left home for college and subsequently discovered that, as pressures increased, she began to suffer severe anxiety attacks. This discovery began a journey of recovery and coping. Copies of the book to purchase are anticipated Ms. Schutz will autograph. Registration is not required. This is especially for teens in grades six through 12, but is open to all. The event will be in Program Room 2, the octagon room. Refreshments will be provided. This event is sponsored by the Friends of the South Brunswick Public Library.
June 6
   Pedals for Progress: Pedals for Progress will hold its 10th collection at South Brunswick High School, 750 Ridge Road, from 12 to 3 p.m. Items may be donated from now until June 6. This year we will collect used bikes, sewing machines, soccer balls and cleats. Items for collection should be accompanied by a check to “Pedals for Progress” to help cover shipping costs ($10 for bikes/sewing machines and $2 for soccer items).Tax deduction receipts are available.
