Birding, open house at Hook during March

Gateway National Recreation Area, Sandy Hook, will hold a spring equinox shore walk 7 p.m. March 20 beginning at Fort Hancock. The American Littoral Society will lead the free walk. Reservations are required and may be done by calling the ALS at 732-291-0055.

A two-hour spring bird walk with a New Jersey Audubon Society naturalist will be 10 a.m. March 21 beginning at the visitor center. “Battery Gunnison Preserved” will be noon- 4 p.m. March 21, and noon-3 p.m. March 22 at Fort Hancock. Attendees may stop by to see theArmy Ground ForcesAssociation restore and interpret Battery Gunnison and its guns. A woodcock and osprey walk will be 7 p.m. March 28 beginning at the visitor center.

A museum collection open house, “Behind the Scenes,” will be 1-4 p.m. March 29 at Building 47 and 25 at Fort Hancock. Attendees may visit the newly renovated museum storage at the buildings, and view the future Sandy Hook visitor center.
