CRANBURY — Township officials are looking at a new recycling service that adds “e-waste” to the laundry list of recyclable items residents can leave for curbside pickup.
”Cranbury is looking to expand the pickups, (adding) more items that homeowners have had to dispose of,” said Linda Scott, the township’s recycling coordinator.
The type of e-waste the township would allow residents to recycle includes bulky electronic items such as televisions and computer components, which could including anything from wires to monitors, she said.
The township is planning for Public Works employees to collect these additional recyclable for a fee of about $10 per item, she said.
This service would aid residents who either don’t have the manpower, strength or the proper vehicle to transport these items to the recycling center themselves, Ms. Scott said.
The process would be as easy as picking up the phone and contacting Ms. Scott, who would set up an appointment time for residents to stop in and purchase a special sticker for their items.
The next step would be to set these items out curbside the morning of the pickup. If the service becomes a reality, it would coincide with the township’s white goods or appliance pickups, which are scheduled for the second Wednesday of every month.
This expansion came about as a result of a resident’s conflict over the disposal of a television.
”This is happening because of a response from a resident,” Ms. Scott said. “I like to hear from residents. We’re always looking for any improvements.”

Ms. Scott said she expects the Township Committee to introduce an ordinance with the program additions at its March 30 meeting.
If all goes according to plan, Ms. Scott said she hopes to have the program expansion up and running by late spring or early summer.
