Local school districts have contested races

Howell residents will elect three candidates to three-year terms on the Board of Education in the April 21 election. The candidates seeking seats on the board are Joseph Moscato Jr., Patrick Dowling, Matthew T. Giachetti, Timothy P. O’Brien and Amy M. Fankhauser. Moscato is an incumbent.

Current Howell school board members Valerie Rosenberg and Robert Antonaccio are not seeking re-election, according to information provided by the Howell K-8 School District.

Six residents are running for three seats on the Plumsted Board of Education in the April 21 school election. In this year’s election two seats will be added to the board as the panel increases its membership from five to seven.

The change will become effective following the school election when the board holds its reorganization meeting for the 2009-10 school year.

Three three-year terms will be available in the April 21 election. The only incumbent in the race is Joanna Barlow. In addition to Barlow, the candidates running for the Plumsted school board are Christopher Probasco, Keith Buckalew, Jon Hauge, Richard Roach and Robin Witkowski.

In Jackson, three seats on the Jackson Board of Education will be up for grabs when residents go to the polls on April 21. The terms of Marvin Krakower, John Morvay and Martin Spielman will be ending in April.

According to information provided by the Jackson School District, nine residents have filed to run for the three seats. The candidates are Nicholas Antonoff, Sal Duscio, Matthew Genovese, Marvin Krakower, John Morvay, Tracey Murnane, Theresa Schiazza, Martin Spielman and Barbara Vigliotti.

There will be four seats up for grabs on the Freehold Regional High School District Board Education in the April 21 school election. The terms now held by Joan Leimbach of Howell, Bunny Hammer of Freehold Borough and Patricia Horvath of Manalapan will be on the ballot. Those three seats will each carry a three-year term.

Leimbach will square off against Robert Nicastro and William Bruno for the Howell seat; Hammer will square off against Harold Moses for the Freehold Borough seat; and Horvath will square off against Jennifer Sutera for the Manalapan seat.

A two-year unexpired term for the Marlboro seat will be contested among Gordon Loeb, Barry Hochberg and David Wolff. Loeb was appointed to the seat two weeks ago and is serving as the FRHSD’s Marlboro representative through April.

This story includes all candidates who filed a nominating petition by 4 p.m. March 4. Gov. Jon Corzine extended the original filing deadline of 4 p.m. March 2 by 48 hours after a snowstorm on March 2 caused school districts to be closed on that day.
