Area restaurants will be pitching in to help Manville stduents in the coming weeks, with fundraisers planned that will help Weston School students, as well as a high school track star travel to Australia.
Monday night, Manville Pizzaria and Restaurant is holding a Family Night benefit for the Weston School PTA.
The South Main Street restaurant will donate 15 percent of all sales from 5 p.m. to 8 p.m. for the group.
Then, on Tuesday, and again on April 21, Applebee’s Restaurant in Hillsborough will dedicate its “Dining to Donate” night to Manville High School senior’s Bill Demeter’s efforst to raise money to go to Australia to compete in the International Sports Tournament in early July.
The restaurant will donate 10 percent of diner’s bills when they present a copy of a flyer, available from Bill and the school district Web site.
He is on the MHS track team and received an invitation to participate on the United States Track and Field team.
”It’s like a Junior Olympics,” he said. “Track is my favorite sport and I’ve always wanted to go to Australia. This is like a dream come true. I’d be going to Australia to do my favorite sport. What more can a teenage athlete ask for?”
The total cost of the trip is $4,695 plus $300-$500 for incidentals.
