March Madness has started: not the basketball games, but the budget presentations.
Last week, the South Brunswick Council started their March Madness with the presentation of the new budget.
As of today we know that our water and sewer rates are going up approximately 10.5 percent. The current estimate is that the average household will be paying $806 next year, an increase of $76 over the current average of $730 per year.
The governor presented the state budget today and stated that municipal aid will be cut by 2 percent.
M
iddlesex County has stated
that it was looking at cutting its budget by 9 percent. That implies that more costs will be shifted to the municipalities.
The above information has and will be discussed by our citizens around their dinner tables. It is important that all the citizens of South Brunswick get involved by studying the proposed budget and letting the council know their ideas on saving themselves money on both municipal budgets and school budgets.
