MONROE: Students graded by state

   MONROE — Monroe high school and middle school students fared well on the New Jersey State report cards as recently released test scores show.
   Regarding high school students who took the language arts literacy proficiency assessment test, partial proficient scores dropped from last year’s 12.2 percent to this year’s 11.4.
   Their proficient scores increased from 67.8 percent last year to this year’s 77.7 percent while advanced scores decreased from 20 percent to 10.9 percent this year.
   In math, students who tested partially proficient last year were at 20.8 percent while this year that same number dropped to 16.9 percent.
   Proficient testers increased from last year’s 50.6 percent to this year’s 60.5 percent, while advanced testing fell from last year’s 28.6 percent to 22.6 percent this year.
   At Applegarth Middle School, students were either closely in line with or testing above the state average as the New Jersey Assessment of Skills and Knowledge test show.
   Of seventh-graders who took the arts literacy New Jersey Assessment of Skills and Knowledge test, 18.2 percent scored partially proficient while the state’s average was 29.4 percent.
   In addition, 60.9 percent tested proficient compared to the state average of 55.8 percent while 20.9 percent tested advanced compared to the state average of 14.7 percent.
   With mathematics testing, 30.3 percent of Monroe seventh-graders tested partially proficient; 35.6 percent was the state average.
   Of these students, 48.1 tested proficient in math while the state average stood at 44.6 percent.
   Concerning advanced math testing, Monroe’s seventh-graders scored at 21.6 percent compared to the state average of 19.9 percent.
   Fifteen percent of Applegarth eighth-graders taking the NJASK language arts and literacy test scored advanced while 76.8 percent scored partially proficient and 8.2 percent scored partially proficient.
   The state averages for the same test and grade level were reported as 11.5 percent testing advanced, 69.9 percent testing proficient and 18.6 percent testing partially proficient.
   In math, 28.7 percent of the Applegarth Eighth-graders tested partially proficient compared to the 32.4 percent state average while 50.4 percent of those same students tested proficient compared to the state average of 42.8 percent.
   Concerning advanced level testing in math, 20.9 percent of Monroe’s eight-graders scored in this range while the state average was 24.9 percent.
   In science, 5.1 percent of Monroe’s eighth-graders scored partially proficient compared to the state average of 15.7 percent while 54.1 percent of those students scored proficient compared to the state average of 51.9 percent.
   In science, 40.8 percent of Monroe students scored advanced while the state average was 32.3 percent.
