RAPID RESPONSE NETWORK HOTLINE HELPS IMMIGRANT EXERCISE THEIR RIGHTS TO FOIL AN ICE HOME RAID IN PRINCETON NEW JERSEY

On Thursday, March 12, 2009 at approximately 6:00 p.m., the Rapid Response Network Hotline helped immigrants in Princeton, NJ foil another ICE raid. ICE (Immigration and Customs Enforcement) agents have been raiding residences throughout the country, violating rights and terrorizing the immigrant population.
Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) agents arrived at the home of three immigrants in Princeton New Jersey. When one of the residents opened the door, an agent attempted to keep the door open with their foot and demanded to see the residents’ documents.
The residents called the Rapid Response Network Hotline and a Spanish-speaking volunteer informed them of their rights over the phone during the raid. When the callers exercised their right to refrain from opening their home to agents, who were unable to produce a search warrant signed by a judge, the agents threatened to revoke the residents’ visas if they did not open the door. The residents resisted and ultimately the agents left and no arrests took place.
The Rapid Response Network Hotline provides Know Your Rights information in Spanish and English to individuals subjected to ICE raids in order to prevent the arrest and detention of innocent working Americans.  Call the hotline 24 hours a day, 7 days a week for Know Your Rights information. 1-800-308-0878
