New Brunswick, NJ (March 19, 2009)—State Theatre presents the National Acrobats of China on Sunday, April 5 at 2pm. Directed by Tian Zichun and Yao Jianguo, National Acrobats of China have beenamazing audiences for over 50 years with their combination ofmartial arts, acrobatics, and illusion. National Acrobats of China is sponsored by Yellow Book. A special $99 4-pack is available for this show (for sections A and B only). Tickets range from $20-45(group and student discounts available).
Set to traditional Chinese music, the group achieves what seems impossible for the human body to accomplish. Some of their tricks include juggling, plate spinning, acrobatic feats on silk rope, contortion, and balancing acts on beams and bicycles.
Founded in 1956, the National Acrobats of China have toured to more than 30 different countries. Having done so, they inspired many other acrobatic troupes around the world that have adopted original pieces from the show. From 1997 to early 2007, the troupe toured in Europe for an average of seven months each year and performed in more than 100 cities during that period.
The company has won 20 international awards, including the Silver Award at the Moscow International Circus Festival in August 2007.Since the 1980s, the troupe has won numerous gold, silver and copper awards for juggling, cycling, and acrobatics. The act “Benches Juggling with Feet” was showcased at the Tenth International Circus Festival of Monte Carlo in Monaco. The same act also won The Golden Clown Award in December, 1984, and the Silver Award in the 2nd China National Acrobatic Competition in September of 1993.The troupe is also recognized for having made a great and lasting contribution to the international performing market for Chinese acrobats. In January of 1997, “Cycling Stunts” won the first prize and The Golden Clown Award at the 21st Monte Carlo International Circus Festival.
