The upcoming elections for four Freehold Regional High School District Board of Education members allow the public to send the current board a message about (Superintendent of Schools) Mr. (James) Wasser and his recent attempt to anoint himself as a doctor without the benefit of going through the hard work of completing the requisite coursework from an accredited school.
His behavior, both before and after the discovery of his scheme was discovered, warrant his removal, in my opinion.
The current board did not condemn in any manner his problematic, if not unethical behavior, in this matter. Since it appears that Mr. Wasser will not resign, the only relief the constituency has is to vote out members of the current board who, through their silence, condoned Mr. Wasser’s actions.
On April 21, Bunny Hammer and Patricia Horvath should be voted out of office due to their silence in the Wasser matter. Joan Leimbach is the most recent board member and should be given the benefit of the doubt in this matter.
Terry Kraft’s recent letter to the editor (“Judge Superintendent on Pupil Performance and Finances,” News Transcript, March 18) actually supports my position that the current board should not be reelected.
Mr. Kraft, a member of the board for many years until he was voted out of office, seems to exemplify the board’s silence on the Wasser matter.
While I agree with Mr. Kraft that administrators should be judged on pupil performance and finances, this should not be the only yardstick that is used.
In my opinion, the superintendent
represents the district in numerous ways, including being held to a higher standard of ethical behavior. To have a superintendent who, more than likely, schemed with other administrators to use a loophole in the board policies is reprehensible and not someone who should be held as a role model to our students.
Perhaps Mr. Kraft could explain to the students how Mr. Wasser’s actions are not unethical.
As Mr. Kraft wrote, “Our children deserve no less from us.” I certainly agree with this sentiment. So, in the interest of our children, Mr. Wasser should either be forced to resign or removed from his position.
Also, in the interest of our children and to repair the FRHSD’s reputation, Ms. Horvath and Ms. Hammer should be voted out of office so that new board members can take a fresh look at the district and Mr. Wasser.
