Woman sentenced for theft

A Toms River resident pleaded guilty late last year to charges of theft that were contained in a 2007 indictment.

Monmouth County First Assistant Prosecutor Peter E. Warshaw Jr. told the News Transcript on March 13 that Incenge Torres pleaded guilty to theft in November.

He said she was sentenced earlier this year to five years’ probation conditioned on 180 days in the Monmouth County jail.

Warshaw said Torres was ordered to pay $5,000 restitution to The Arc of Monmouth, a nonprofit organization that provides services for individuals with cognitive and developmental disabilities.

On Aug. 8, 2007, a Monmouth County grand jury returned a two-count indictment charging Torres, of Toms River, with thirddegree theft and fourth-degree forgery.

According to a press release from the Monmouth County Prosecutor’s Office that was issued at the time of her indictment, Torres was employed as resident manager for a Manalapan group home operated by The Arc of Monmouth.

One of Torres’ responsibilities was to assist the residents of the group home with their finances and banking. She was accused of stealing money from six residents of the group home between Jan. 1, 2003, and Feb. 6, 2006, according to the press release.
