ALLENTOWN—Boys tennis an improved team

While he is still in the process of putting together his boys’ tennis team, Allentown High Coach Dan Fallon has already seen enough to be encouraged that 2009 will be a better season than last year.
“I’ve seen some encouraging things,” Fallon said. “We’re hoping to do well in a very tough division.”
Allentown is scheduled to open the season on April 1 at West Windsor North. Two days later, the team will play at Steinert.
Allentown will have three primary returnees from a team that went 4-13 last year.
“We also have a bunch of freshmen, sophomores and juniors out for the team,” Fallon said. “We just have to get our challenge matches in and see how we set up.”
Kyle Genova, a junior, is back healthy after missing most of last season. Genova had moved from a doubles player to a starter in the singles lineup as a freshman. He started last season as the first singles player, but was injured after only four matches.
“He looks healthy this year,” Fallon said. “We look forward to having him around to finish this season.”
Alex Fortsch, a junior, also was a singles player last season.
“He’s looking to have a solid year,” Fallon said. “He played over the summer and fall and we’re hoping he’ll have a better year.”
Nick Tomasella, another junior, played third singles last year.
“He in great shape,” Fallon said. “He participated in track in the winter and played a lot of tennis on his own. I think he’ll do well.”
Matt Morini, a freshman, has made an early impression in practices.
“He’s pretty good,” Fallon said. “He’s very exciting to watch.”
Fallon is hoping the same is true of the entire Allentown team. It has a good core group of players back and a lot of young talent to add to the mix.
“We’ll see how it goes,” Fallon said. “I’m hoping to have a better season than the last one.”
