EWING: Dreamlift for kids planned May 5

By Greg Forester, Staff Writer
EWING — The Mercer County chapter of the Sunshine Foundation will fly 120 special-needs children down to Disney World once again on May 5 during the organization’s annual Dreamlift event.
The children and 50 chaperones will be whisked away for a day of fun at Disney World in Orlando, Fla. The Miami Air charter plane will lift off from the Air National Guard facility in Ewing Township at 8 a.m. May 5, touching down in Florida at around 10:30 a.m.
The children and their chaperones will then have seven hours of fun, before returning to New Jersey at 10 p.m. that same night.
The organization, which is dedicated to providing opportunities to special-needs children whose families lack the resources for trips to places like Disney World, is on the lookout for donors to support the trip.
The Sunshine Foundation is promoting its $350 adopt-a-seat program, which allows individual and corporate donors to fund airfare, food, souvenirs, park admission and other transportation costs for a single child. Interested donors, however, are free to donate any sum to fund the trip or support the organization, said Cathy DiCostanzo, president of the Mercer chapter.
”Every dime counts,” Ms. DiCostanzo said.
