Mrs. Van Derveer, 100, of Applewood Estates, Freehold Township, died March 12, 2009. Born in Farmingdale, she had lived in Freehold since 1930. Mrs. Van Derveer was an elementary school teacher for many years in Asbury Park, Freehold Township and Howell. As a volunteer, she knitted over 1,000 baby hats for newborns at CentraState Medical Center, Freehold Township. Mrs. Van Derveer was predeceased by her husband, Howard, and a granddaughter, Jeni Pierce. Surviving are her children, Carolyn Storer of Willingboro, Nancy Pierce of Colts Neck, and Joseph Van Derveer of Jackson; five grandchildren; and 15 greatgrandchildren. Services are private at the convenience of the family. Memorial donations may be made to the Residents Assistance Fund, Applewood Estates, 1 Applewood Drive, Freehold, NJ 07728; or the Abiding Memorial Fund of the First Baptist Church, 81 West Main St., Freehold, NJ 07728.
