HOLMDEL — Residents will have the opportunity to have their household treasures appraised and to donate antique items to the township Historical Society’s upcoming “Antiques: Appraisals and Auction” event.
To help raise funds to restore the old St. Catharine’s Church building on Stillwell Road, the Historical Society is hosting a day of antique appraisals and auctions on May 9 in Fellowship Hall at the Holmdel Community United Church of Christ, located at 40 Main St. (Route 520).
“Old St. Catharine’s Church of Holmdel, established in 1879, is in need of much repair,” said Holmdel Historical Society President George Joynson. “All profits made from the appraisal fees and auctioned-off items will go to the society’s church restoration fund.”
Auctioneer Art Kravetz will start the auction at noon.
Find out what attic treasures are worth by bringing in forgotten items of yesteryear to be appraised or donated. Appraisals will start at 10 a.m.
The cost for appraisals is $5 an item. According to Joynson, certified appraisers and experts have volunteered their time and expertise to offer honest appraisals of items.
Professional appraisers include: Certified Personal Property Appraiser Anneliese Scherring of Universal Stainless & Alloy Products (USAP) of Point Pleasant on art; Wayne Stevenson of Courtside Antiques, who specializes in coins, silver, toys and china; John Senkewitz of J’s Antiques on pottery, porcelain, glass, art glass and cut glass; Robert Lasky on military items; and Gerry Quatro on furniture.
Attendees can also donate an item to the auction, then stick around and make a bid.M
embers of the society are asking people to donate unwanted items of value to be sold during the auction. Interested parties should call Peggy Lasky, the society’s vice president, at 732-946-2723 in advance to arrange pickup.
Items can also be dropped off at the regular Holmdel Historical Society meeting on March 24 or April 28, or mailed to Holmdel Historical Society, P.O. Box 282, Holmdel, NJ 07733.
