The Township Committee voted unanimously Monday night to extend, a short distance to the west, a 25-mph speed zone on Pennington-Titusville Road.
The 25-mph zone, which passes in front of Hopewell Valley Central High School and Timberlane Middle School, now ends near South Timberlane Drive. Beyond that point, the current speed limit is 40 mph.
Under an enabling ordinance adopted Monday night, the 25-mph zone will be extended west to Timkak Lane, a distance of a few hundred yards. Signs will be posted with the new limit. Enforcement can begin when the signs are up.
At the meeting, Pennington-Titusville Road resident Donald Mauer asked if the limit could be reduced to 25 mph all the way to Scotch Road, which is about one-quarter mile west of Timkak Lane.
Administrator/Engineer Paul Pogorzelski said that, because of low population density west of Timkak Lane, officials decided against extending the 25-mph limit past Timkak Lane.
