Three area school boards are scheduled to hold public hearings Tuesday before the vote to adopt their 2009-10 budgets.
The Princeton Regional Board of Education will hold a budget hearing and adoption vote at 7 p.m. Tuesday in the John Witherspoon Middle School.
Last week, the board unanimously approved a $74.1 million preliminary budget. It represents a 1 percent increase over last year’s budget and a 1.7 percent increase in the tax levy.
A township homeowner with a residence assessed at $450,000 would see a school tax increase of $29 while a borough homeowner with a residence assessed at $350,000 would see a $269 school tax hike.
Also last week, the West Windsor-Plainsboro Board of Education approved a $155.9 million preliminary budget, an increase of 1.6 percent over last year. The tax levy is set to increase .5 percent.
The amount of the tax increases for the average assessed homes in Plainsboro and West Windsor is not yet available, Board Secretary Larry Shanok said Thursday.
The school board will hold a joint meeting with the township governing bodies at 6 p.m. in the Community Middle School Media Center. It will be followed by the public hearing and vote at 7:30 p.m. in the Community Middle School Commons.
Montgomery Township Schools approved a $69.5 million budget, which represents a 2.7 percent increase over last year’s budget.
The spending increase over last year is just over 1 percent, and the increase was attributed to declining revenues, such as state aid. For the average assessed home of about $500,000, this would translate into a $199 increase.
The board will hold its budget hearing and vote at 7 p.m. in the Upper Middle School.
