South Brunswick lost one of its most dedicated public servants at the end of February when longtime firefighter James Paulus died.
Mr. Paulus, 69, of Kendall Park, was a member of the volunteer fire company for the past 38 years.
”Jim was a very caring person and friend whom I had the opportunity to serve with for many years and who spent a great deal of his time serving the community,” said friend Richard Kish, via e-mail. “Jim spent endless nights in fire commissioner meetings, responding to fire calls, and being a friend to the members of the fire community. These were the things that Jim loved to do and did so well.”
Mr. Paulus served the Kendall Park Volunteer Fire Company as a former chief, on the Board of Fire Commissioners District No. 1 and belonged to many fire organizations.
”Jim was dedicated to community service as fire inspector and fire marshal in East Brunswick and in South Brunswick,” said Tim Corris of the Kendall Park Volunteer Fire Company. “He was committed to his position. A very nice man and very knowledgeable about fire service who was always able to answer any questions anybody had.”
Mr. Paulus’ parents, Chester and Eleanor Paulus, of New Brunswick, are deceased. He is survived by his wife, Vivian; a daughter, Faith Ann; his brothers, Robert and his wife, Gray Paulus, of Point Pleasant, and Chester W. Paulus Jr. of Somerset; and many nieces and nephews.
”Jim dedicated lots of his time to the community and I will always remember his mentoring and leadership,” Mr. Kish said via e-mail. “Jim will be missed by many and I am sure my thoughts are shared by many, many others.”
