HILLSBOROUGH AREA DOCTORS RECOGNIZED FOR HELPING SOMERSET MEDICAL CENTER ACHIEVE NATIONAL RECOGNITION IN ORTHOPEDIC SURGERY
Orthopedic surgeons Richard Chang, MD, of Belle Mead; Edward Krisiloff, MD, of Belle Mead, and James Patti, MD, of Hillsborough, were among 20 doctors recognized recently for helping Somerset Medical Center achieve national recognition in orthopedic surgery. The medical center has received the 2009 Orthopedic Surgery Excellence Award™ from HealthGrades, the nation’s leading healthcare ratings company.
To achieve this distinction, Somerset Medical Center scored among the top five percent of hospitals nationally in a study of Medicare patient outcomes for orthopedic procedures such as total knee replacement surgery. It is the only hospital in the Central New Jersey region (Somerset, Hunterdon, Middlesex and Warren counties) to receive this designation.
The study by HealthGrades identifies Somerset Medical Center as a five star rated provider for overall orthopedics, joint replacement surgery, total knee replacement surgery, hip fracture repair and back and neck surgery with spinal fusion.
Somerset Medical Center’s orthopedic and neurosurgeons are leaders in their field, performing advanced techniques such as unicompartmental knee surgery, computer-assisted navigation for knee surgery, minimally invasive spine surgery and new surgical treatments for lumbar spinal stenosis. The medical center also offers comprehensive outpatient rehabilitation services, including physical therapy, occupational therapy, and sports rehabilitation. After their surgery, patients are cared for in the medical center’s Obzansky Pavilion by nurses who have advance training in post-surgical care, which is a major factor in decreasing the number of post-surgical complications.
