HHS ATHLETE OF THE WEEK: Ebony Young

Quick Facts: Hillsborough High senior Ebony Young is coming off a very impressive indoor track and field season and is primed to finish her scholastic career with a huge spring. The multi-event threat does her best work in the triple jump, where she holds the school’s indoor and outdoor records. Young, who also excels in the hurdles, long jump and 400 meters, is one of the favorites to win the state title in the triple jump this spring. She will attend Rowan University next year.
Head coach Rich Refi says: “She’s got the potential to score 40 points (4 gold medals) in any meet. As a girl who can do so many events, she keeps us in meets. Rowan is getting a real steal. I can’t wait to see what she does on the next level.”
Favorite Athlete: Venus and Serena Williams. Even though they’re amazing at tennis, I think any task you throw at them they would be able to handle it.
Favorite Team: I’m a Knicks fan. No matter how many games they lose, they’ll always be my favorite.
Favorite Class/Subject: I love math. I just love dealing with numbers and solving algebra equations.
Favorite Food: My favorite food is lasagna, especially when my dad makes it. Basically any Italian food I love.
Favorite TV Show: Fresh Prince and The Cosby Show – always on late at night and it can always make me laugh.
Favorite Movie: Titanic. I love the romance and the dramatic ending.
Favorite Musical Group: Don’t have a favorite group but my favorite artist is Mary J. Blige. I’ve loved her music ever since I was a kid.
Favorite Book: I’m not a big fan of reading but I did like Catcher in the Rye.
Best Role Model(s): My parents. They taught me so much and I admire the strength they have to get through life because it’s not easy.
Biggest Athletic Moment: Best moment for me was when we broke four minutes at Penn Relays for the 4×400. That feeling was so great. I love the adrenaline rush I get during the 4×4.
Indoor or Outdoor Track: Outdoor. The times are so much better and the weather… well, sometimes.
Favorite Event: Triple Jump. It takes so much out of me but it’s worth it.
First Place or PR: PR. PR’s are better than first place because it’s all about your performance and doing your best.
Joetta Clark or Jackie Joyner Kersee: Joetta Clark – she broke so many records she’s in all the books at the big meets. Also pretty cool that she’s from Hillsborough.
