Open House
Thursday, April 2 — St. Mary’s School in Bordentown is having an Open House from 9 to 10 a.m. and again from 6 to 8 p.m. Teachers, students and parents will be on hand for tours and to answer questions. If this date is not convenient for you, please call our school at 609-298-1448 to arrange a personal tour. We look forward to sharing St. Mary’s spirit and fellowship.
St. Mary School is a Catholic, Pre-K through 8 school, which follows the Diocese of Trenton curriculum and is Middle States accredited. We offer before and after-school care, Spanish, technology, advanced math classes, enrichment clubs and a sports program. Development of a sense of service and community is an important part of the St. Mary’s experience.
In parish tuition rates will be offered to those non-parishioners who can demonstrate that they are a member in good standing of another Catholic parish.
Environmental talk
Thursday, April 2 —The Florence Township Environmental Commission is sponsoring a presentation on Birding and Wildlife Trails that connect the best places to view wildlife in Burlington, Atlantic, Camden and Gloucester counties. The presentation by Tony Geiger of the NJ Audubon Soiety will be held at 8 p.m. in the Florence Township Municipal Building, Broad Street, Florence.
Cats fundraiser
Bordentown City Cats will hold its annual flea market fundraiser in early April. Anyone who wishes rent table space for the occasion should call Mak at 324-3896. Fee for tables is $20.
Stations of the Cross
Through April 3 — Stations of the Cross will be offered at 6 p.m. at Christ Episcopal Church, 130 Prince St., Bordentown. Following Stations of the Cross, please join us for a light supper and fellowship. Cost for the dinner is $10 for adults, $5 for children under 12, and free for children under 5. All are welcome. Book fundraiser
Through April 4 — St. Vincent de Paul Society of St. Mary’s Church in Bordentown is holding a book fundraiser in collaboration with Franklin Mason Press. They will donate $3 for each book purchased through www.franklinmasonpress.com. Use charity code SDP231. All proceeds go to help the poor in our area.
Theatre trip
Saturday, April 4 — Shiloh Baptist Church, 104 ½ Elizabeth St., Bordentown City, will hold a trip to see “Behold the Lamb” at Millennium Theatre on April 4. Departure is at 8:45 a.m. sharp. Cost is $135 per person, non-refundable, and includes transportation, ticket for the show and dinner (payment plan available). Ages 3-11, $50; ages 12-18, $80. Workshop for parents
Saturday, April 4 —PASE, a parent support group, will be hosting, as the guest of Florence Township, a behavioral workshop for parents and professionals in Florence Township. It is an all day workshop which will include refreshments/lunch.

Children’s plays
Saturday, April 4 —The children’s theater production “The Short Tree and the Bird That Could Not Sing” will be performed at the Bordentown Performing Arts center at 2 p.m. Tickets are $6 and can be reserved on the theater’s Web site, www.bordentownpac.org or by calling 609-496-1452. Tickets can also be purchased at the door.

Church concert
Sunday, April 5 — The Dorothea Dix Unitarian Universalist Community of Crosswicks, NJ presents singer/songwriters and Zoom Express/BMG recording artists Joseph and John DeMasi in concert at 7 p.m. at the Crosswicks United Methodist Church. Refreshments will be served. Tickets are $20 a person, and all proceeds benefit the Dorothea Dix Unitarian Universalist Community.
Casino trip
Sunday, April 5 — The Knights of Columbus No. 570 will sponsor a bus trip to the Showboat Casino in Atlantic City. A bus will leave from St. Mary’s church on Elizabeth Street in Bordentown City at 4:30 p.m. for a four-hour stay. The cost is $25 per person and each attendee will receive $30 slot play in Showboat. Holy Week
Beginning Thursday, April 9 — Easter Triduum services at the Monastery of St. Clare, 150 White Pine Road, Chesterfield, will be celebrated at 7 p.m. April 9, 3 p.m. April 10, and 7 p.m. April 11. Fish fry
Friday, April 10 — The Youth Activities Committee of the Bordentown Elks Lodge 2085 will hold its annual all-you-can-eat fish fry from 5 to 8 p.m. at 11 Amboy Road, Bordentown.
The menu will consist of New England clam chowder, battered fish, fries, mac and cheese, cole slaw, coffee/tea and dessert. The cost is $10 for adults, $5 for children 5 to 12 and free for children under 5.

Clothing drive
Through April 14 —St. Mary’s School in Bordentown is collecting wearable and usable clothing, shoes, fashion accessories – belts, handbags, etc., linens, toys, stuffed animals, baby carriages, playpens. Please put your clothing donations in a well-tied plastic garbage bag and hard toys in secured cardboard boxes. Shoes must be placed in a separate bag from the items mentioned above. Please drop your donations off at the back of the food pantry located at the right turn after you entered St. Mary’s church parking lot. Saturday, April 18 — The Bordentown Regional High School Class of 2010 is holding a Flea Market in the High School parking lot (318 Ward Avenue) from 8 a.m to 1 p.m. Interested in your own table? Contact Michelle Leusner at 609-298-0025, extension 1182.
In addition, we will be holding a car wash. Get your car washed and find great deals at the same time. Cost will be $5 for cars/small trucks and $6 for large trucks/SUVs/vans.
Evening of Cole Porter
Saturday, April 18 — Bordentown City’s Old City Hall Restoration Project will hold a fundraising event titled, “An Evening of Cole Porter and Friends.” Come out and enjoy an evening of Cole Porter songs and show tunes by local professional vocalists Robert Violette and Sarah Blann. Crafts accompanied by piano virtuoso Bobbie Boulware. Both singers will entertain us with renditions of old favorites at 7:30 p.m. at Old City Hall, Crosswicks Stret.
Parking is available at St. Mary’s Church parking lot. OCHRP will be raffling off two special items. Nationally known local painter and illustrator, Al Barker, has donated a stunning oil painting of Old City Hall. Bike enthusiast Gary LaValle and local vendor Fred Reister of the Bicycle Pro Bike Shop have donated a new Giant Bolder Bicycle. Raffle tickets will be $1 each or six for $5. Tickets for “An Evening of Cole Porter” can be purchased for $25 at the following venues on Farnsworth Avenue: The Farnsworth Gallery, Silk and Tweed, Shoppe 202, Under the Moon Restaurant, from Assemblyman Joe Malone or by calling 609-298-6470 or 609-298-4332. Refreshments will be available for purchase the night of the event. All proceeds go directly to restoring Old City Hall. Tickets are limited to 99.

Saturday, April 18 —An Arbor Day tree planting will be held at 9 a.m. Help plant shade trees throughout Bordentown City. Bring a shovel and gloves. Sponsored by the Bordentown City Shade Tree Committee. Meet at City Hall, 324 Farnsworth Avenue.
Community sale
Saturday, April 25 — The Clara Barton School PTO’s first Community Sale will be held April 25. The sale will be held in the school gym, at 100 Crosswicks St. Bordentown, from 8 a.m. to 1 p.m. Toys, books, clothing, household items will all be available. Home businesses & local crafters are also welcome. Table rental is $15 for CBS families & $20 for all other community members. Bike Eric
Saturday, April 25 —The 11th Annual Bike Eric fundraiser will be held to benefit the Eric Potts Foundation. Eric was injured in a lacrosse game when he was 21 years old. He is a quadriplegic (paralyzed from the chest down). The event starts and finishes at Bung’s tavern at Route 130 in Florence. Door prizes available for participants. Earth Talk
Tuesday, April 28 — The BCEC Earth Talk for April will include a screening of “The Greening of Southie” at 7 p.m., about Boston’s first LEED-certified residential green building. With its sloping grass roof and recycled materials, The Macallen Building seemed an odd addition to South Boston – “Southie” – a Traditionally working-class neighborhood. Yet The Macallen not only won high marks for its sustainable design ideas, its creation also spurred construction workers and environmentalists to think about the city of the future. Free. Golf tournament
Thursday, May 7 — Mark your calendars now for the Chesterfield Public Education Fund’s (CPEF) Annual Golf Tournament, Dinner & Live Auction, to be held at Mercer Oaks in Princeton Junction. Come for golf, dinner or both, and stay for the auction. This is the CPEF’s only fundraiser. St. Mary’s gift baskets
Friday, May 15 — The St. Mary’s PTA will sponsor the school’s annual gift basket auction will be held at the Bordentown Elks Club, 11 Amboy Ave. Doors will open at 6 p.m. and the auction will begin at 7:30 p.m. The admission cost is $6 and includes a sheet of tickets, free dessert and a door prize ticket. There will be a large variety of beautiful gift items available. No one under 18 permitted.

Logo contest
The Crosswicks-Doctors Creek Watershed Association (CDCWA) is opening its logo contest to the general public. The contest period will run through May 15, 2009. The Logo Selection Committee of the CDCWA will evaluate all submitted entries and announce the winning entry on June 15. The winner will be notified and a $50 prize will be awarded at the regular meeting of the CDCWA in September 2009. The CDCWA is a local non-profit that has as its mission to protect surface water quality, preserve historic sites and vistas, and create a network of land and water trails within the Crosswicks-Doctors Creek Watershed.
