To the editor:
It has been great to see so many people showing interest in the upcoming election for Bordentown City Commissioner on May 12.There are many concerns Bordentown City residents have about the state of the city, and the role our new leadership will play.
My campaign has led the way with a platform based on communication, openness and a positive plan for moving the city forward. I’ve made a concerted effort to knock on doors to speak with residents, and also to keep my Web site updated with the latest information about my campaign, our city, and my stance on the various issues. I have opened a campaign headquarters on at 350 Farnsworth Ave. to make myself even more accessible to voters, since getting out to meet and listen to Bordentown City residents has been a huge priority for me, and has given me a much broader and informed perspective.
I have called for a Town Hall Meeting and contacting organizations who would be willing to conduct one since that is the next best way to hear what all the candidates have to say about the issues. I am now happy to report that the Women League of Voters will be conducting a Town Hall Meeting (hosted by the Downtown Business Association) right before the election. All voters are encouraged to attend. Details will be on my Web site as they are finalized.
I also urge all City residents to attend the Commissioners meeting on April 27, as the municipal tax increase will be discussed. My questions for the commissioners will be: Why are our municipal taxes going up 3.5percent, after we were told that the recent court merger and EMS merger would “save us money”? I would like to know where the “savings” from those mergers is being spent. What plan will be put in place to deal with this tax increase, and how do the commissioners plan on leading us toward a more sustainable tax burden?
I am taking this election very seriously, as evidenced by they way I have been running my campaign. I will also take the position of commissioner seriously. What I stand for and how I will lead the city has been clearly stated for everyone to see, and the manner in which I run my campaign (with openness, clarity and in a positive direction) is a preview of how I will lead the city.
I know two other candidates now have Web sites, which is a step in the right direction. But it would be a service to all the voters if every one of the candidates for commissioner opened their campaigns and thoughts about the issues.
Hopefully the Town Hall Meeting will give Bordentown City residents a chance to hear from the other candidates. Remember that you can and should vote for three commissioners on May 12th, as all three will be representing you equally. Please visit my Web site, bordentowncity.org, for more information about my campaign.
