Suspect arrested after fleeing from officers

MANALAPAN — A resident of West New York faces multiple charges after fleeing from police and leading officers on a pursuit that ended in Old Bridge.

According to Manalapan police, PatrolmanMichael Hoppock responded to a report of an erratic driver in the area of Route 9 on March 13. A vehicle matching the description was located and a motor vehicle check of the registration determined that the vehicle had been reported stolen out of West New York, Hudson County, on March 9.

A motor vehicle stop was initiated in the parking lot of a gas station at Route 9 north and Ryan Road. Shortly thereafter, the driver fled in the vehicle onto Route 9 north.

A pursuit ensued and Manalapan Patrolman Bryan Belardo joined Hoppock in the pursuit. According to the press release, the pursuit continued through Marlboro and into Old Bridge, where the suspect’s vehicle ran off the road and crashed into a drainage basin. The suspect was removed from the vehicle and taken into custody with the assistance of the Old Bridge police officers.

The suspect, Luis Paillaman, an unemployed 40-year-old male from West New York, was transported to Raritan Bay Medical Center, Old Bridge, for treatment of injuries sustained in the crash. Police said that upon his release from the hospital, Paillaman was lodged in the Monmouth County jail, Freehold Township, in lieu of $45,000 bail.

Paillaman was charged with receiving stolen property, eluding police, resisting arrest, driving while intoxicated, driving with a suspended license, reckless driving and numerous other moving violations which were committed during the course of the pursuit, according to police.

The case is pending court action.

In other news from the Manalapan Police Department, Patrolman Seth Kreizman responded to a call on March 10 at Four Seasons at Manalapan, an active adult community on Route 33 near Woodward Road.

According to police, unknown persons attempted to gain entry to the indoor pool at the clubhouse. Kreizman reported that three window screens at the clubhouse had been cut. The windows had been locked and there were no signs of entry. The attempted burglary case is pending investigation.

In an unrelated incident, also on March 10, a Manalapan police report states that various kinds of copper were taken from a Cabalero and Sons plumbing truck that was parked in the driveway of a Chamber Lane home. According to a report filed by Patrolman Ross Dessel, the victim said various types of copper were taken from his work vehicle. The estimated value of the missing items was $580.
