Michael T. Serbin, Hopewell Township
I regret not attending the March 23 Township Committee meeting and commenting on the presentation for a proposed teen center and related costs of $100K.
We are informed a Community Needs Assessment Survey yielded a 24 percent response. Teens opted to stay at home after school because they had “nothing to do”!
Really? Did these teens consider homework studies, household chores, yard work, volunteering in the community, etc.? Possibly those working parents could use some relief in supporting these children who obviously have too much time to spare.
What the residents of Hopewell Valley could use now is tax relief from a new property reassessment, a leaner school budget and a much-needed animal shelter. I ask this municipal body to priortize the real needs of this community and better utilization of this $100,000.
