The Jane Voorhees Zimmerli Art Museum, 71 Hamilton St., New Brunswick, will offer several upcoming events.
Every Wednesday during the spring semester, the Zimmerli will extend its regular hours to 9 p.m. to offer a variety of special, informal programs including live music, poetry and other literary readings, gallery talks, dance and other artistic performances. Admission is free of charge. Refreshments will be served.
The public is welcome to attend a “Feminism Then and Now” symposium set for 1-4 p.m. April 3. All speakers will address the study of feminist art in the 1970s with the beginning of the women’s movement, and very recent works that have been done on feminist topics. A reception will follow the event. Admission is free of charge.
“Etch Your Sketch: Printmaking” is planned for 12:30-3 p.m. April 4. The program, which will be led by artist/educator Colleen Gleason, will demonstrate a simple version of an etching using ballpoint pens, Styrofoam plates and ink. For more information, call 732- 932-7237, ext. 615.
“The Art of Poetry: Writers House Creativity Showcase” will take place 1-3 p.m. April 5. Students take on traditional forms of writing, as well as writing in new media, at the Rutgers University English department’s new Writers House. The Zimmerli will showcase the work generated by Writers House in classes ranging from “Creative Writing” to “New Media for Writers.” Admission is free of charge. The program takes place the first Sunday of every month.
