OLD BRIDGE — Quick thinking on the part of township police officials may have saved the life of a missing elderly man recently.
Those involved in locating the missing man were thanked publicly during a presentation at Old Bridge Town Hall recently.
In early February, police were contacted about a missing elderly man on foot. Police dispatcher Frank Stefanelli decided to contact the radio station 101.5-FM and put out a description on the missing person.
Because of the message over the airwaves, NJ Transit bus driver Martin Heraghty was able to identify the man, found walking at 3:30 a.m. on Route 9 south near the Lakewood-Howell border. Heraghty was successful at convincing the man to get into the bus, and then transported him to police at the Old Bridge bus depot.
Old Bridge Police Chief Thomas Collow publicly recognized the involved individuals during the March 9 Township Council meeting with certificates of appreciation.
Along with Heraghty and Stefanelli, those honored included radio producer Steven Griess and radio personality Tommy G.
