Head Coach: Pete Mueller, eighth year
Last year: 9-15
Key returning players: Mike Leach (Sr.),Jonathan Prosinski (Sr.), Jake Stewart (Sr.), Mike Friel (Jr.), Taylor Mulligan (Jr.), Josh Prevost (Jr.).
Top newcomers: Scott Kornburg (Sr.), Tom Murphy (Sr.), Joe Prati (Sr.), Brandon Cheslock (Jr.), Matt Chin (Jr.), Pat Hurley (Jr.), Dale Johnson (Jr.), Danny Sgammato (Jr.), Kyle Wernicki (Jr.), Kevin Brune (So.), Ryan Carmon (So.), Nick Covello (So.), Pat Guma (So.), Jason Kalvin (So.), DJ Ruhlman (So.).
Coach’s Thoughts: We will be significantly younger this season than in years past. However, we have good quality players and a lot of depth in the field and on the mound, which should help.
Princeton
Head Coach: Dave Robert, first year
Last year: 1-22
Key returning players: Matt Alvarez (Sr.), Steven Fuchs (Sr.), Eric Hoffman (Sr.), Matsuru Shimamoto (Sr.), Trevor Barsamian (Jr.), Benito Gonzalez (Jr.), Nick Miranda (Jr.), Danny Powell(Jr.)
Top newcomers: Ronak Chawla (Sr.), Dan Chen (Sr.), Colby Hering (Sr.), Steve Etherton (Jr.), Carson Eisenach (Jr.), Matt Weidner (Jr.), Luke Cordonnier (So.).
Coach’s Thoughts: We have gone back to the findamentals, really stressing playing good defense and making sure we get outs. Pitching wise we have placed a huge emphasis on throwing strikes, pitching to contact, and being economical with our pitch counts so we can go deeper in games with our starters. Offensively, we have plenty of speed. We will rely on small ball and trying to create some chaos on the base paths in an effort to confuse the defense. We have some players who are great gap to gap hitters who we will rely on to score runs. We are emphasizing making contact and not striking out.
WW-P North
Head Coach: Bob Boyce, ninth year
Last year: 13-11
Key returning players: Chris Avino (Sr.), David Bachner (Sr.), Scott Kelly (Sr.), Frank Rauh (Sr.), Eric Rosenbaum (Sr.), John Sullivan (Sr.), Mike Tartaro (Sr.), Eric Wisotsky (Sr.), Ryan Phelan (Jr.), Chet Otis (Jr.), Kyle Reed (Jr.).
Top newcomers: Matt Hui (Sr.), Hari Ravi (Sr.), Glenn Sheard (Sr.), Chris Hase (Jr.), Andy Vogt (Jr.), Mike Voltmer (Jr.), Neal DeVincenzo (So.).
Coach’s Thoughts: North baseball should have a solid year. We are returning many players from last season and we expect to improve upon last season’s results. The key elements to success will be more consistent offense – we struggled out of the gate last year at the plate – and a pitching staff that can step up to the level of performance mandated by Brian Sigle and Greyson VanDyke who both pitched varsity baseball for four years. Reasonable goals for us are to compete for the Valley Division crown, make some noise in the Mercer County tournament, and qualify for the state tournament.
WW-P South
Head Coach: Don Hutchinson, 14th year
Last year: 5-19
Key returning players: Dan Block (Sr.), Ryan Brand (Sr.), Alex Chanson (Sr.), Tom Carroll (Sr.), John Donovan (Sr.), Quinn Male (Sr.), Max Merkovitz (Sr.), Sujith Murali (Sr.), Ralph Aurora (Jr.), Alex Campbell (Jr.), Zach Donahue (Jr.), Evan Smith (Jr.).
Top newcomers: Will Edmonds (Sr.), Ryan McCabe (Sr.), Jon Redmond (Jr.), Jared Rubenstein (Jr.), Phil Trachtenberg (Jr.).
Coach’s Thoughts: We should be better than last year. Our pitching is almost all the same people. We lost Mitch Liebowitz in center and Andy McKeever at short, but all of our pitchers are back, plus we have Alex Campbell, who could not pitch last year and should be able to this year. A lot of the pitchers have been working with Kevin Barry over the winter. We’ll score enough runs and play decent defense. It will come down to pitching if we’re going to be in the games or not.
Hun School
Coaches: Bill McQuade, 39th year
Last year: 13-8, state Prep A champions
Key returning players: Nick Cuvelier (Sr.), Patrick Andrews (Jr.), Julian Dandridge (Jr.), Brendan Dudeck (Jr.), Mike Ford (Jr.), Will Mooney (Jr.), Chris Leach (So.).
Top newcomers: Satoshi Kii (PG), Mark Bergen (Sr.), Jon Mann (Sr.), Mike Arditte (Jr.), Ryan Samuels (Jr.), Robert Vanisko (Jr.), Mark Rende (So.), David Dudeck (Fr.), Phil Pecora (Fr.), Ron Sessa (Fr.).
Coach’s Thoughts: We graduated some of the finest players that have played for Hun – Mike Russo, David Putman, John Gianis, Mel Williams and Drew Felker – but we return some very talented young players. Mike Ford will anchor our pitching staff followed by Nick Cuvelier. We have two very talented catchers in Andrews and Leach as well as Phil Pecora. Our defense should be solid, especially in the infield with Brendan Dudeck, Mark Rende, Mike Ford, Will Mooney and David Dudeck being able to play multiple positions very well. Offensively we will be different, more speed vs. the power that we have had for the past several years and I expect the offense to continually improve as the younger, inexperienced players continually face better pitching.
Princeton Day
Head Coach: Ray O’Brien, first year
Last year: 16-4
Key returning players: Blake Backinoff (Sr.), Robbie Deutsch(Sr.), Anthony Farina (Sr.), Matt Raborn (Sr.), Dan Savitsky (Sr.), Tim Barrett(Jr.), Dennis Cannon (Jr.), Jim Furhman (Jr.), Jon Scott (Jr.), Skye Samse (So.), Jon Walker (So.).
Top newcomers: Dylan Kelly (Jr.), Josh Meekins (Jr.), Evan Quinn (Jr.), Kevin Francfort (So.), Brooks Backinoff (Fr.), Matt Cook (Fr.), Beau Horan (Fr.), Tom Keegan (Fr.), Sean McCoy (Fr.).
Coach’s Thoughts: We’re looking forward to the season. I think it will be a lot of fun. We have a pretty tough schedule at the beginning of the season. We have a strong junior class and if they continue to mature, we could be pretty good.
