PRINCETON: Boys tennis previews

Montgomery
Head Coach: John Arnold, 19th year
   Last year: 14-7
Key returning players: Christian Aurup (Sr.), Vince Chang (Sr.), Mike Goldman (Jr.), Justin Chang (So.).
Top newcomers: Mischa Milijanic (Sr.), Errol Gingis (Jr.), Shehab Saad (Jr.), Nate Seto (So.).
Coach’s Thoughts: Our goal is to win every match we play and learn from every loss. We are a very balanced team this year. The doubles teams have some experience and I hope they are able to come together quickly. We are in a very tough conference and county but I hope this team is able to hold its own.
Princeton
Head Coach: Sarah Heyman, fourth year
Last year: 18-2, Central Jersey Group III champions
Key returning players: Kevin Cen (Jr.), Aaron Wishnick (Jr.), David Zheng (Jr.).
Top newcomers: Aidan Milner (Sr.), Alex Sussman (Sr.), Holden Warriner (Sr.), Ken Lee (Jr.), Jesse Chai (So.).
Coach’s Thoughts: We lost five starters from last year’s team, including first and third singles, first doubles, and part of second, some of whom were four-year starters. We have the potential to be a strong team again, but will definitely have a bit of a rebuilding year. We should still have a chance at a conference title, but the county and state will be tougher this year as the players need a chance to settle into their new positions. We have some freshmen who are just out of the starting lineup at this point, but should have an impact on the team in the future.

We’re still working out our doubles, but this is what’s shaping up so far.

WW-P North
Head Coach: Albert Paulsson, ninth year
Last year: 15-4, CVC Valley Division champions
Key returning players: Sean Lee (Sr.), Jun Yoshitake (Sr.), Brandon Frank (Jr.), Tim Wu (Jr.).
Top newcomers: Abishy Pandita (Jr.), Kevin Shock (Jr.), Evan Samet (So.), Zach Kurfirst (So.).
Coach’s Thoughts: The team is looking to improve upon its record from last year. It has a good core of experienced players and some hard-working new additions. The team would like to advance further in the Mercer County and state tournaments this year — top three in Mercer would be great.
WW-P South
Head Coach: Jim Giovacchini, eighth year
Last year: 18-1, Central Jersey Group IV, Mercer County Tournament, CVC Colonial Division champions
Key returning players: Julian Richardson (Jr.), Demetri Vrahnos (Jr.), Daniel Ng (So.).
Top newcomers: Jeff Yang (Sr.), Armaan Saxena (Jr.), Abhinay Tumati (So.), Peter Ku (Fr.).
Coach’s Thoughts: Our strength will probably be our singles lineup. The doubles will be four guys that have never played varsity before. Demetri has only played doubles and he’ll move into singles and do fine. Julian returns to the singles lineup and should do fine. Daniel is moving into the singles lineup and should do fine. The doubles is inexperienced. If we progress, we should do OK. I just hope they can grow together and learn and improve and do OK.
Hun School
    Coaches: Todd Loffredo, first year
   Last year: 5-9
Key returning players: Ed Park (Jr.).
Top newcomers: Hunter Barth (Sr.), Wade Copeland (Sr.), Vinny Daswani (Sr.), Richard Mather (Jr.), Antek Piasecki (Jr.), Matt Head (So.), Dobrin Mitev (Fr.), Chris Seitz (Fr.).
Coach’s Thoughts: Our top two guys are going to be our strengths as far as talent and leadership. Ed Park will be the leadership, then the talent we’ll go to is there. Chris Seitz is a freshman. We’re going to be looking to those two for team leadership and talent. Our outlook is a new outlook and a younger outlook on our opponents and our season. It’ll be interesting to see where we stand. I think we should hold our own.
Princeton Day
Head Coach: Rome Campbell, 26th year
Last year: 7-2, Prep B state and Patriot Division champions
Key returning players: Vinay Trivedi (Sr.), Neil Karandikar (Jr.).
Top newcomers: Dylan Draher (Sr.), David McCourt (Sr.), Jason Kilbourne (Jr.), Ellis Ratner (Jr.), Max Gebhardt (So.), Jeremy Lu (So.).
Coach’s Thoughts: We have 31 players in the program. We have a full JV team and also a freshman team this year. We’re expanding our program which is nice for PDs. We have 13 freshmen out. Our singles lineup looks pretty solid, not as strong as the past few years, but still competitive, especially with Karandikar at the helm. The keys to the season are our improving doubles teams and how they come along. The goals for this year is to finish in the top four at Mercer Counties, and we’d like to repeat as prep champs and again win the Patriot Division in the prep school league.
