Two men are facing assault and burglary charges following a break-in on Ellis Court that led to one of the residents of the burglarized home being struck by a car.
Jonathan Thompson, 20, of Piscataway, and Mark Wosatka, 19, of Somerset, were charged with aggravated assault and burglary in the incident that occurred Friday. Police said Mr. Thompson and Mr. Wosatka had broken into the residence when the occupants returned home at 5:12 p.m. The occupants, a married couple, observed an unfamiliar Cadillac parked in their driveway.
The husband told his wife to stay by the car and he went inside their house, said Sgt. Hugh McNeil, assistant public information officer. The suspects heard the husband enter the residence. They yelled and the husband chased the two suspects out of the house.
The suspects got into the Cadillac, which belonged to Mr. Thompson, and in the process of fleeing the driveway struck the woman in the leg with their car, according to police.
The vehicle, driven by Mr. Thompson, was stopped in North Brunswick by North Brunswick police, who heard the description of the vehicle broadcast over their police radio. South Brunswick police arrived and took the two men into custody.
Both suspects were transported to the Middlesex County Adult Correction Center in lieu of $100,000 bail.
The woman suffered a serious injury to her leg, according to Sgt. James Stoddard, public information officer.
Sgt. Stoddard said the woman had tissue torn from her leg, which exposed the ligaments and bone. She was transported to Robert Wood Johnson University Hospital for treatment. Sgt. Stoddard said that as of Saturday the woman was still in the hospital, but he was unsure of her current condition.
