BORDENTOWN TOWNSHIP — It’s been over two years since Bordentown Regional High School moved to its new digs, and some of its occupants are getting restless.
Representations of the nearly 75 members of the school’s Academic Hall of Fame have been in storage since the school moved from Dunns Mill Road to its Ward Avenue location in the fall of 2006.
Since then, the Alumni Academic Hall of Fame Committee has been working on a plan to redesign the display and make it a focal point of the school, according to Principal Patrick Lynch.
“It’s about honoring our best and our brightest now in hopes (current students) someday do something that helps everybody,” he said. “That’s what these inductees have done: risen to top of their expertise, and given back to their communities.”
The committee is made up of between 8 and 10 alumni, as well as current and former staff members and teachers, and each year it selects two or so graduates to induct. Those who have received this honor include Assemblyman Joseph Malone, R-30th, of the Class of 1967, and Josh Zeitz ’90, now a senior policy advisor to Gov. Jon S. Corzine.
The original setup in the Dunns Mill Road school consisted of a framed picture with a biography beneath it, Mr. Lynch said.
The committee envisions the new Hall of Fame as running in the corridor leading to the high school’s library, he said, at the center of the school.
Photographs of the high school’s various incarnations over the ages will be used to draw people in, Mr. Lynch added.
And if the funds can be raised, the new setup will feature a touch-screen computer loaded up with biographies and pictures of each of the members.
Mr. Lynch said the school expects the project to cost about $5,000, and that about $3,000 has already been collected through donations by honorees and the retail chain Target. Requests for help will next go out to area businesses.
Anyone looking to make a donation toward the new Hall of Fame can send a check to Joseph Kelly, Class of 1972 Chairman AAHoF, 318 Ward Ave., Bordentown, NJ 08505. Checks should be made out to Bordentown Regional School District with a notation of “AAHoF.”
