The Marlboro Republican Party and the Marlboro Reformed Democrats have announced their endorsed candidates for three seats on the Marlboro Township Council.
Three four-year terms on the township’s governing body will be on the ballot in the November general election.
The Marlboro Republican Party and the Marlboro Reformed Democrats both issued press releases on the morning of April 6 announcing their candidates.
Other candidates could have filed to run for a council seat by the April 6 afternoon deadline. The deadline occurred after this edition of the News Transcript went to press.
Republican council President Steve Rosenthal and Republican Councilwoman Rosa Tragni will not seek re-election.
Councilman Jeff Cantor, who recently switched from the Republican Party to the Democratic Party, will seek re-election.
The Republican Party-endorsed candidates are Jack Zatz, Carol Mazzola and Selika Josiah Gore.
According to information provided by Republican Party Chairman John Gibardi, Zatz is employed at Alcatel-Lucent as a director of managed network operations solutions. Zatz is a student at the Rutgers School of Law in Newark and will be graduating this spring with his degree in law. He has served on the Zoning Board of Adjustment and the Planning Board.
Mazzola is a local real estate professional with Keller Williams Realty West Monmouth and is the president-elect of the Kiwanis Club of Marlboro. According to the GOP press release, Mazzola owned and operated an award-winning full-service advertising and public relations firm.
Gore is an attorney with a solo practice in Marlboro. She has a degree in political science from Stony Brook University and a J.D. from Hofstra University School of Law. Gore has been active in community work and has received national recognition in the past for community service, according to the press release. She is a trustee on the Marlboro Educational Foundation and vice president of the Marlboro Memorial Middle School PTA for 2009.
Cantor will run for re-election on the Democratic ticket and will be joined by Scott Metzger and Lynn Franco, according to information from the Marlboro Reformed Democrats.
Cantor is completing his first term on the Township Council. He works in the pharmaceutical industry and is a U.S. Army reservist. Cantor has been an officer in the U.S. Army Civil Affairs branch. Since 1998 he has performed civil affairs missions in Cameroon, Kosovo, Moldova, Croatia, Hungary, Germany and Iraq. Cantor is also a volunteer emergency medical technician.
Metzger is an anesthesiologist and pain management specialist. He is a graduate of Boston University, the Boston University School of Medicine and Johns Hopkins Schools of Medicine and Continuing Studies. Metzger is a coach of boys and girls soccer teams in town. His late father was a member of the Township Council.
Franco is a consultant to her family business, Pension Advisory Services. According to the press release, she is an active volunteer in town and has served on the Marlboro Swim Club board as chair. She has also been a team parent representative for the Marlboro Marlins swim team.
Franco has been a volunteer for the public school programs. She is a member of the PTA/PTOs of Asher Holmes School, the Marlboro Elementary School and the Marlboro Middle School. Franco was appointed as a trustee and elected secretary to the Marlboro Educational Foundation and is also a member of the Kiwanis Club of Marlboro. As a member of the Unitarian Universalist Congregation of Monmouth County, Franco has taught Sunday school and has been a member of the finance and fundraising committee.
