Jen Britton, of New Egypt
I have heard that New Egypt High School students are unhappy for the following reasons: The children can no longer eat on the floor in the hallways. The superintendent is no longer socializing with the students. The board does not care about the high school. Class periods are longer. There is no school pride.
When I was in high school I ate in the cafeteria and I did not personally know my superintendent. I assumed he was busy running the district, and I don’t understand what these things have to do with school pride. Over the past three years I too have witnessed changes made to our district and in particular changes to our high school.
Since Joanna Barlow has been on the board the following positive changes have been made: A qualified and well-respected high school principal was promoted from within. A student assistance counselor was hired and a guidance group was created to discuss and address the various issues and concerns of our high school students. Impact Aid money was allocated to improve the technology, instruction and safety at the high school. All high school courses now have curriculum. Class times now meet the state requirements.
These are positive changes made at the high school. Change is never easy, and never happens without its bumps. I have read about these changes in Mrs. Barlow’s monthly column, which is published in this newspaper, another positive change brought by Mrs. Barlow.
I believe Joanna Barlow has a proven record of doing what is right for all of the students of New Egypt. I know that the Barlow-Roach-Witkowski team will continue the positive progress that has been achieved in our high school and our district. I will be voting for the Barlow-Roach-Witkowski team for the future of our high school and the future of my children.
