MARLBORO — Municipal officials will hold a special meeting on April 20 to introduce the 2009 municipal budget. The meeting will be held at Town Hall at 8 p.m.
During the Township Council’s meeting on April 2, council President Steve Rosenthal said the administration has been making cuts in all possible areas. He said hard choices must be made today to ensure a brighter tomorrow.
Rosenthal said township officials are looking for revenues to bring to Marlboro, including a possible public-private partnership with an indoor recreation facility which could potentially bring the municipality $100,000 in taxes.
He said shared services and grant opportunities should help the township.
Rosenthal asked residents to be patient, rational and to stand by the mayor, council and administration during these difficult financial times.
Mayor Jonathan Hornik said during the April 2 meeting that he was not able to comment on the details of the budget publicly yet since he must wait for union negotiations to be completed.
He said Marlboro is facing an approximate $6.2 million shortfall and said officials have come up with a plan to close the gap.
“We’re doing what we have to do,” the mayor said.
