Pass the budget

Our school budget election will be held on April 21, 2009. Unfortunately, our school budget is never easy to pass and with many people pushed to the limits in the present economy, this year will be no exception. Some people will list several reasons to vote against approving the school budget. I assure you as a taxpayer and homeowner I understand them all. However, as a parent and an American looking to a brighter future, I can find many more reasons to vote “yes.”
As hard as times seem to us now, many financial experts are predicting a much more difficult time for our children. They will be faced with the burden of paying back our government debts. When they are ready to enter college they will be faced with a lack of government money for low-interest college loans, upon retirement they face the possible collapse of Social Security retirement funds, and repayment of debt which has been incurred now to help in this economic crisis. I think we owe them the best education possible now to give them some of the tools they will need to overcome the hurdles they will face in the future.
In this age of a plummeting stock market it seems to me the only guaranteed investment is the one we make in our children and future generations. Let’s tell the district, the country, and the world that we in this district are willing to invest in America’s future. Make no mistake about it; the children you believe in today are the future of this country.
They are the future scientists that will work on an alternative fuel so that we are not so dependent on oil producing countries; they will come up with the solutions for global warming so our planet can become healthy once again, and they are out future doctors that will develop cures for cancer, diabetes and Alzheimer’s.
They are our future ambassadors and peacekeepers who will put an end to our fellow Americans going off to war in foreign countries. They are our future politicians that will give all Americans a say in how their tax dollars are spent and pass reform so we can believe in the political process once again. They are our future business and industrial leaders who will run out companies with pride and quality so that we can have pride once again in products that say “Made in America,” and last but not least, they are our future educators who will put children and their education first.
So please, on April 21, let’s show our support toward these goals by voting “YES” for our school budget and show our children and grandchildren, nieces and nephews that we are willing to invest in them and our country’s future.
