ROBBINSVILLE — Township Council candidates Lance Brown and Miguel Edwards this week pledged not to accept develops’ money for their campaign and said, if elected, would proposed an ordinance to “close the loopholes” in the town’s political contributions law.
Their proposal would require firms who submit planning and zoning applications and their professionals to disclose political contributions and would bar township officials from taking part in any matters related to such firms.
”Pay to play drives up the cost of government at the expense of property taxpayers,” said Mr. Edwards in a press release. “Every resident needs to know that their government works for them, not the special interest.”
The two political newcomers last month announced their candidacy for the two seats up for grabs in the May 12 nonpartisan election.
They face former Mayor Vince Calcagno and Planning Board Chairwoman Shere4e McGowan.
The two seats are currently held by Sonja Walter, who is challenging Mayor Dave Fried in the upcoming election, and William Lesniak, who is not seeking re-election.
