The Bucks County Playhouse will be the setting for the discussion
The seventh annual April Speaker Series continues on April 20 at 5 p.m. when the New Hope Historical Society will feature Bucks County Herald theater critics, John Dwyer and Herb Millman, discussing the history of Broadway in New Hope.
The Bucks County Playhouse will be the setting for the discussion, which has been brought back by popular demand. Last season Mr. Dwyer and Mr. Millman discussed the origin of the Bucks County Playhouse and the early years through the 1950s. This year they will present a look back at the shows and actors who appeared in New Hope since that time.
Mr. Dwyer and Mr. Millman review Broadway shows and have had conversations with such theater icons as Tyne Daly, Stockard Channing, Elizabeth Ashley, Angela Lansbury and many more over the past two years.
They are authors of Art Deco Lighting and Popular Art Deco Lighting: Shades of the Past. Mr. Dwyer and Mr. Millman have appeared on QVC network as the Deco Guys and have appeared frequently on Comcast’s Your Morning on CN8.
”We are very grateful to Ralph Miller and the Bucks County Playhouse for donating the use of the Playhouse again this year for this popular event. Herb Millman and John Dwyer drew the largest audience last year, and having this discussion take place in the historic Bucks County Playhouse in its 70th anniversary season adds to the great interest,” said Edwin Hild, president of the New Hope Historical Society.
A wine and cheese reception will be held at the Parry Mansion, across the street from the Bucks County Playhouse, after the lecture.
Admission is free for members of the New Hope Historical Society and open to the public. Admission is $15 including the lecture and wine and cheese reception.
Contact the Historical Society at 215-862-5652 for reservations. Free parking will be provided, courtesy of the Bucks County Playhouse.
