District budget deserves support

Dean and Sandy Behrend, of Kendall Park
We would like to commend Superintendent Gary P. McCartney and the Board of Education for a school budget that appears to retain all the elements of a quality education for all students K-12 while keeping taxpayers from any increased tax burden. In other words, we will pay no new taxes to support the 2009-10 school budget.
Certainly, the small projected enrolment for the next school year is a major factor in this flat budget. But we should also recognize the diligent effort made by our Board of Education and superintendent for their careful and thoughtful examination of programs and the needs of faculty and students.
We are older residents of South Brunswick and have seen our three children and two of our grandchildren educated in our schools. Now, it is our turn to help educate the next generation of students. We urge all citizens to support the school budget at the polls on Tuesday, April 21.
