PRINCETON: Donated bikes to support Boys & Girls Clubs

By Greg Forester, Staff Writer
Local cycling enthusiasts and businesses have teamed up to form the Boys & Girls Club Bike Exchange, which will refurbish donated bicycles and provide them at modest prices to area residents.
The bike exchange, organized by Princeton resident and cycling enthusiast Russ White, is relying on volunteer work by members of the 800-member Princeton Free Wheelers and the Levin Management Corp., a retail real estate service firm.
All proceeds from the sales of donated bikes will be given to the Boys & Girls Club of Trenton & Mercer County of Centre Street in Trenton in support of the organization’s after school programs.
Persons looking to donate quality used bicycles can drop them off at two locations — the Bike Exchange’s new store in Capitol Plaza Shopping Center on Olden Avenue in Ewing Township or at FastSigns on Route 1 south in Lawrence Township, Monday through Friday during regular business hours.
The Boys & Girls Club of Trenton & Mercer County provides after-school, summer camp, and academic program to more than 2,000 children and young adults in the greater Mercer County area.
The bike exchange has already set a goal of attaining 400 used bicycles by opening day on May 2.
Bikes delivered to the bike exchange will be tuned and refurbished and then offered at low prices at the Ewing location, where patrons can also pick up bicycle helmets for a discounted price of $10 a piece.
The bike exchange is gratefully accepting tax-deductible cash donations to help defray the cost of helmets.
For people who can’t wait for the May 2 opening, the bike exchange will also be accepting equipment from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. April 18 and April 25.
FastSigns is already accepting bikes during regular business hours.
