Today Senator Baroni visited our school to discuss his job and the jobs of the government. He does this every year for our 4th gaders, but this year was special to my class because he came up to our room after the assembly to receive letters from my students. The letters were about different issues each student felt needed to be addressed or changed in the world. Some issues were about local problems, such as needing more bike paths, while others were about gobal problems, such as, plastics in the ocean, economic prices, and medical needs. The students talked to the senator about the various topics and what they felt needed to be done to stop the activites or change them. He said he would take the letters back to the state building and read all the letters to see if there is anything he can do to help us. One of the issues, temperatures in schools, he mentioned is already being written up as a bill. We were very excited that he took the time to visit with us but especially happy that he took the letters to the government. The students now see how being proactive members of the community is the best way to create change and make the state, the country, and the world, a better place for all of us to live!
