Support school; vote for budget

Barbara McWilliams, of Kendall Park
As a resident of South Brunswick for more than 30 years, I, like many, have witnessed tremendous growth. Along with growth came wonderful neighbors, businesses and a great school system. In these very difficult economic times we are very fortunate to have a school budget that calls for no increase in our school taxes. Our Board of Education consistently values and supports an exemplary education for all our children. Our schools continue to offer outstanding academic courses, visual and performing arts and athletics. Our children consistently achieve high success. Programs from full-day kindergarten, numerous AP courses and everything in between are important for preparing students for a global economy.
It is extremely unfortunate that 25 positions had to be eliminated to help achieve a zero tax increase. Although the board feels these positions may not effect the direct education of the students, all positions effect the students in one capacity or another. If the budget is defeated, where will we cut — classrooms, athletics, music programs, non-mandatory busing? Please take a moment a read the budget facts in the latest Spotlight. We are very lucky in South Brunswick to have the outstanding school system we have. Please vote yes Tuesday, April 21, to protect and preserve the outstanding school system we all benefit from.
