Quick Facts: Hillsborough High junior Ryan Hengerer has shot under par in two of his team’s first three regular season meets, in addition to leading the Raiders to the team title at last week’s Cherry Valley Invitational. Hengerer, now competing in his third varsity season, fired a 76 to finish second at Cherry Valley.
Coach Paul Parker says: “Ryan works at his game constantly and he works on every aspect of his game. His demeanor on the golf course has improved and he’s getting hot right now. I’ve seen him mature a lot as a golfer.”
Here are some of Ryan Hengerer’s favorites:
Favorite athlete: Tiger Woods. He is the man. Every chance I get I am always watching him. I get so excited when he pulls off one of his amazing shots, which he always does.
Favorite team: New York Rangers and New York Giants. I have watched the Rangers ever since I was a kid and I plan on seeing them win the Stanley Cup some day. One of the greatest athletic television moments was when the Giants won the Super Bowl in 2008.
Favorite class/subject: Chemistry. I like to participate in hands-on activities and discover new ideas through science.
Favorite food: Steak and lobster. I have traveled to Maine almost every year since I was a kid and I have always enjoyed a lobster feast. Who doesn’t like the wonderful taste of steak?
Favorite TV show: “House” and “24” both put you in suspense and there is constant action going on.
Favorite movie: “Happy Gilmore” and “Caddyshack” are probably the funniest two golf movies I have ever seen and Adam Sandler is hilarious.
Favorite musical group: Rock-and-roll in general, no matter the band, suits my personality.
Favorite book: “To Kill a Mockingbird” is a book that makes you think and was the only book I enjoyed reading during the school year.
Best role model(s): Mom and dad have always been my role models. They have raised four kids and are still having to deal with my sister and me. That is tough by itself.
Biggest athletic moment: I shot my lowest 18-hole round of a 64 at Heron Glen Golf Course for 8-under par. It’s the most exciting round I have ever played.
Driver or putter: Driver. There is nothing like taking the driver and crushing it down the middle of the fairway. Even if it does not go well, most of the time it goes far.
Par 3 or Par 5: Par 5s have always suited my long game. Most of the time I will birdie a par 5 rather than a par 3. They play much easier for me, which is not always the case with other players.
Standard or links course: Standard as in a heavily wooded course. I have always preferred a nice course in the woods rather than a course with absolutely no trees.
Tiger or Phil: Tiger has always been in contention during a major and always seems to come through in the clutch.
