PRINCETON AREA: Community Calendar: April 17 – April 25

TASTY MUSIC-MAKING — Last year, classical pianist and Princeton resident Soyeon Lee, who will make her Princeton Symphony Orchestra debut on Sunday, April 26, wore a designer concert gown made from 6,000 recycled juice pouches at her Carnegie Hall Re!nvented recital to promote environmental awareness. Her Re!nvented CD has just been released and, as the next step of her environmental advocacy, her CD case is the most eco-friendly ever. It’s made from compressed shredded Frito-Lay chip bags. Chip bags are non-recyclable and, unless they are used for something else, they sit in landfills forever. Typical CD cases are made from polyvinyl chloride (PVC), a petrochemical-based plastic that is very difficult to recycle and is linked to elevated cancer rates among workers and people who live near the manufacturing plants.
