JAMESBURG: Budget squeaks by

District still awaits absentee ballots

     The $12.457 million school budget was narrowly approved Tuesday night, 147 to 141. However, District officials said that they are still awaiting the results of absentee ballots before making the results official.
     The budget is 1.5 percent larger than last year’s and  carries a school tax rate increase of 3.3 cents per $100 of assessed valuation, to $2.863. Under that rate, the owner of a home assesed at $150,000 would pay approximately $4,294 in school taxes for the 2009-10 year, up about $49.50 from last year.
     Voters also elecrted Ted Somers, Darren Larsen and newcomer Robert Czarneski to the school board. Mr. Somers recevied 207 votes, Mr. Larsen 197 and Mr. Czarneski 196.
