Kessler Introduces New Programs for People Living with MS
Kessler Institute for Rehabilitation has launched two new wellness programs for individuals living with Multiple Sclerosis (MS). The programs, offered in collaboration with the New Jersey Metro Chapter of the National Multiple Sclerosis Society, focus on the physical, emotional and cognitive well-being of individuals with MS and offer the education and strategies to help improve quality of life.
The Living with MS Support Group & Wellness Seminars is a 12-week series that covers a wide range of topics, including understanding the mind-body interaction of this neurodegenerative disease, managing daily activities and coping with the many changes that MS presents. Yoga is included as part of each meeting and lunch is provided. The group meets weekly from 10:00 AM to 2:00 PM at Kessler’s West Orange campus, located at 1199 Pleasant Valley Way.
Kessler’s new Neurocognitive Program for MS assists individuals in identifying challenges with cognitive issues, such as memory and problem solving, that are known to be affected by the disease. This highly specialized program helps patients develop the skills and strategies to compensate for any difficulties. Participants meet twice a week for eight consecutive weeks at Kessler’s West Orange campus.
“These two new programs are about empowering individuals with MS to best manage their disease,” explained Kessler psychologist Kimberly McGuire, Ph.D. “Our team of neurorehabilitation specialists works to provide greater awareness and insight into the many changes and challenges that individuals with MS are likely to experience and help them to adapt to them.”
