The Florence Township Volunteer Fire Co. No. 1 will be holding a Hoagie and Meatball Sandwich Sale on May 1 from 11 a.m. to 6 p.m. and Saturday, May 2, from 11 a.m. to sell out. Hoagies available are Italian, American, and tuna. Price is $6 for either sandwich, which includes a beverage and a bag of chips. Advance orders are welcome by calling 609-499-6003 or fax 609-499-6004. The sale will be held at the firehouse, 401 Firehouse Lane in Florence.
May 1 is another Shrimp Nite at the American Legion Post 39 on Fourth Avenue in Roebling from 5 p.m. until sellout. Come out and enjoy 15 large shrimp and homemade potato salad, cole slaw, and dessert for only $10. If you don’t like the shrimp, we have meatball sandwiches for only $7 with the same sides. Take outs are available by calling 499-3880 anytime after 3:30 for pick up after 5 p.m
Willitts-Hogan-Tonne American Legion Post and Unit 39 is having an Old-Fashioned Sock Hop on Saturday, May 2. The doors will open at 6:30 p.m. with food and dancing to start at 7 p.m. Dress is casual. Cost is $15 per person with a cash bar. Please call Phil at 499-4232 for tickets.
Tonight is the meeting of the Florence Township. Chapter of Deborah at the Sterling House, 7:30 p.m. They are having their fund drive. Saturday, May 2, they will have a cake sale at Shop ‘n’ Bag in Roebling from 9 a.m to noon. If you are interested in donating a cake or helping out in any way, please call Carol at 499-1927.
Mother’s Day tea to be held at St. Stephen’s Church, Second and Spring streets, May 2. Call Bonnie Tete at 609-744-9486 for tickets by April 23. There will be no tickets sold at the door. Tickets are $30 per person.
May 14 Florence U.M. Church Second and Broad streets, will be having a Mother/Daughter Dinner at 6 p.m. Adults are $10 and children at $5. There will be entertainment. Call 499-1731 or 499-3807 for tickets.
Florence American Legion Auxiliary, Unit 194 will hold their annual Spring Craft Show at the Post Home, Sixth and Broad streets, from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. Crafter spaces are available. For additional information or to reserve a space, call 609-499-3144 or online [email protected].
The Florence Township Football Association is holding its first Golf Outing at Hanover Golf Course on Saturday, May 23. Cost is $120 per golfer and includes the driving range, green fees and cart. Beverages on the course, an after party at the Roebling VFW, games and prizes. Any questions can be directed to Joe Brunner at 609-784-2727.
Vacation Bible School will take place at the Florence U.M. Church, Second and Broad streets in Florence. Starting June 22, ending with a closing program at the church on June 28. Classes start at 9 a.m. to 12 noon. If you are interested in a form call 499-3807.

Florence U.M. Church also has a Food Pantry for those in need. You may call 499-1129 any morning before 11 a.m. to set a time for picking up food. We are also taking donations for the same such as; canned soups , potatoes, bread, canned meats, canned pasta dinners, cereals, canned fruit, beverages, etc. We thank all who have donated in the past.

Florence Township Senior trips: May 27, Wednesday to Doolans in Spring Lake. Show and luncheon is $70. Show is USO Stars and Stripes Extravaganza with Stars and Stripes Show Band, comedian, Veterans Appreciation Salute with indoor parade. Includes luncheon with one-hour open bar, menu is beef, turkey and seafood; wine and sodas during dinner. Trips are open to the public. Call Helen at 499-2055.
