I applaud Hank Kalet for his column in this last week’s South Brunswick Post about rights for gays. Gays and lesbians are full citizens of this country, but they are often treated like second class citizens by many of their fellow Americans. Gays and lesbians should have the right to live their lives exactly like their heterosexual counterparts — married, with all the rights, responsibilities, and privileges of legal marriage.
Churches that don’t want to sanction these marriages shouldn’t have to do so, but there is no reason why a gay or lesbian couple shouldn’t be able to marry civilly, or by any religious institution that chooses to do so.
Sooner, rather than later, equal gay marriage will come. I look forward to the day.
