The Northern Burlington County Regional High School baseball team improved to 2-2 with a 3-0 win over Moorestown on Friday.
Cliff Nanfeldt tossed his second complete game and picked up his second win for NBC. Nanfeldt allowed just fours hits. He walked two batters and struck out two batters.
“We are very proud of Cliff Nanfeldt going 14 innings without giving up a run,” Northern Burlington Coach Rick Doppler said.
According to Doppler, Nanfeldt also got pretty good support from the other eight players on the field in a Northern Burlington uniform.
“The defense is playing very well behind him, with no errors in two games and four double plays,” Doppler said. “The offense is continually improving as we keep going against tough competition.”
Ian Moyer provided the offense with a homer and two RBI.
Northern Burlington doubled North Hunterdon in the hit column (10-5), but ended up losing a 6-3 decision on Saturday.
“North Hunterdon turned three double plays and Northern (Burlington) left 13 runners on base, eight in scoring position,” Doppler noted.
Northern Burlington was up 2-1 before North Hunterton scored four runs in the bottom of the fifth.
Buey Garofalo gave up four runs in 4 1/3 innings of work. Chris Pula also pitched for Northern Burlington.
“Buey Garofalo and Chris Pula looked good and pitched well enough for us to win,” Doppler said. “Offense didn’t hit timely and we just left too many guys on base. Good things will happen if Buey and Chris continue to pitch as they did.”
Garofalo was 3-for-3 in the game. Pat Dwyer and Steve Fenstermacher were both 2-for-3.
    BRHS
The Bordentown High School baseball team won the Delaney Classic on Saturday. Bordentown defeated Clayton, 12-7, in the championship game. Bordentown reached the title game with a forfeit win over Pennsauken Tech.
“After receiving the win because our opponent didn’t show up to the tournament, our team had to sit around and wait to play for four hours,” Bordentown Coach Joe Sprague said. “I was proud of our resilience and ability to put all the distractions behind us and go out there and win the tournament.”
Tommy Potts struck out eight batters and picked up the win with five innings of relief.
“Tommy Potts did a great job of relieving Pete Pulhac in the third inning,” Sprague said. “Pete didn’t have his best stuff going that day and we preach to our kids that they have to pick each other up and that is what Tommy did.”
DJ Kafer earned the tournament MVP. Kafer was 3-for-4 with two runs scored and two RBI in the win. Scott Gorish had three hits and a RBI. Chris Papp had two hits and a RBI.
    Bordentown defeated Burlington City, 12-2.
Joey Gutowski pitched five innings, struck out 10, allowed three hits and both of the runs he surrendered were unearnbed. Pete Pulhac was 3-for-4 with three runs scored and three RBI. Tommy Potts and DJ Kafer also added two hits.
“To start the season 5-1 is great, but our team is still hungry,” Sprague said. “We have to beat some quality opponents this week to support our 5-1 start. We have to beat teams that are as good as us. It is easy to beat the teams you are supposed to beat, we have to go out there and beat teams that are on the same level as us. I have confidence that our team will work hard to do just that.”
    FLORENCE
The Florence High School baseball team defeated Collingswood, 10-3, on Saturday.
Jake Dewitt tossed three scoreless innings for Florence. Heath Fillmyer picked up the win, going four innings and allow three runs (all unearned). It was Fillymyer’s first varsity game and he had great off-speed stuff working for him.
Jimmy Martinson had three hits and three runs scored. Ian Groover and Jim Narkum had a run, hit and two RBI each. AJ Storcell had two runs scored.
Also on Saturday, Florence was defeated by Hamilton, 14-1.
Earlier in the week, Florence defeated Palmyra, 7-2, behind the pitching of Tom Napolitan.
    Ian Groover was 3-for-4.
Florence is now 4-3 on the year and scheduled to host Ewing today (Thursday) and play at Burlington City on Friday.
