Pennington Quality Market holds ‘Fight Cancer Day’ Tuesday

PQM will join forces with The American Cancer Society and donate 5 percent of its total sales to the Central Jersey Division of the American Cancer Society

   Help Pennington Quality Market (PQM) fight the battle against cancer when they hold their 16th annual “Fight Cancer Day.”
   The event will be held April 28 from 7 a.m.-9 p.m.
   PQM will join forces with The American Cancer Society and donate 5 percent of its total sales to the Central Jersey Division of the American Cancer Society (ACS). The donation will be used to further cancer research, public education and patient services. Over the past 15 years PQM has contributed a total of $169,917 to the ACS.
   When the doors open at 7 a.m. the first 200 customers will receive a free half-gallon of Tropicana Orange Juice. Over 60 celebrity baggers will lend their time throughout the day by bagging the groceries of PQM shoppers.
   All customers who shop between noon and 1 p.m. will receive PQM’s own Earth Friendly Shopping Bag free.
   The entertainment will begin at 10 a.m. The Mummertime Musicians will perform from 10 a.m.-6 p.m. Arnie the Balloon Man will create fanciful balloon creations starting at 2 p.m. and continuing through 6 p.m. Chris Rollins from WPST will broadcast from 11 a.m.-1 p.m. Children can have their face painted from 2-6 p.m. by PQM Artist Judy Roseboro, and Stiltman Wayne will entertain from 10 feet. Enjoy a free neck and shoulder massage given by Tia Donohue, a certified massage therapist from 11 a.m.-4 p.m.
   In addition to a full schedule of entertainment, PQM and the ACS have scheduled a variety of preventive health screenings. Hopewell Township Board of Health nurses will take free blood pressure readings from 10 a.m. – 4 p.m. From 10 a.m.-4 p.m. Hopewell Township Board of Health will offer free colo-rectal cancer screenings. From 10 a.m.-4 p.m. learn about “Run for Dad,” an event designed to raise awareness about prostrate cancer in men and highlighting the importance of screening and early detection.
   From 10 a.m. – 4 p.m., ACS will explain their “Slip, Slap, Slop” Program and a Derma Scan machine will be available to illustrate the importance of sun protection. From 10 a.m.-4 p.m. check how well your exercise program is working or get motivated to start with a Body Fat Analysis provided by Capital Health System. The ACS will display and provide materials concerning their guidelines for prevention and early detection of breast and testicular cancer from 10 a.m.-4 p.m. From 10 a.m.-4 p.m. shoppers can learn more about “Relay for Life.” Additionally, the ACS will provide information on Patient and Family Services.
   There will be plenty to eat with free samples throughout the store, including dishes prepared by the Chefs of PQM’s Catered Cuisine. Shoppers can get a Boar’s Head hot dog and a Coke for $1 from 11 a.m.-3 p.m. with all proceeds going to fight cancer.

   Raffle tickets can be purchased at PQM beginning Friday (April 24). All proceeds will be added to the total amount raised.
