The Robbinsville High girls’ track team competed in the Mercer Relays, hosted by their school this past Saturday.
The top three teams in each event earned medals. Robbinsville earned a medal when Becky Homan and Kate Connolly combined to throw the javelin 183’ 2”.
“Becky Homan and Kate Connolly have really stepped it up this year,” Robbinsville Coach Mike Walker said. “Kate scored at sectionals last year, but she has reached a new level in the javelin (as well as Becky). If Becky and Kate can continue improving just a little more, they will be in position to medal at states.”
Reilly Sheehan, Allyson Guieb, Silpa Srinivasulu and Amber Scott also combined to place second in the shuttle hurdles in a time of 1:09.3.
“We know that Amber Scott will be up there and compete with anyone in the state, so this was more of a test for our other girls,” Walker noted.
“Silpa Srinivasulu is rounding into top shape for the 100 hurdles, and Allyson Guieb ran a terrific PR (personal record) in the 400 hurdles (1:12). They scored at sectionals for us last year, so this is not a surprise. Freshman Reilly Sheehan is a nice addition in the short hurdles and gives us tremendous depth. She is learning from the upper classmen, and if she can get the three-step down in the race, Reilly should score huge points at sectionals for us.”
Guieb, Srinivasulu and Statz were seventh in the 3×400 IM (3:52.1). Sheehan, Douglass, Norato and Scott were seventh in the 4×100 (52 seconds). Homan and Polk were 13th in the discus (127’). Hughes and Harmon were sixth in the high jump (9’ 2”)
“The meet was also bitter-sweet because we didn’t run in any distance races,” Walker said. “Our star distance runner Megan Flynn is out for most of the season with an injury, and a few other distance girls have nagging injuries that kept them out of Saturday’s competition. We are being cautious with our other distance girls, but we can only hope that Megan will be back in time for states.”
